Defending Iran Is Religious Obligation: Senior Afghan Shia Cleric

An Afghan Shia source of emulation said defending Iran against the aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime is a religious obligation.

AhlulBayt News Agency: An Afghan Shia source of emulation said defending Iran against the aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime is a religious obligation.

Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer Fazeli Behsudi said that according to the verses of the Holy Quran, defending the Islamic Republic of Iran in the war against the United States and the Zionist regime is an obligation for Muslims.

Criticizing the recent statement of the Council of Al-Azhar Scholars in Egypt, he said that while the United States and the Zionist regime have been committing massacres and crimes in Islamic lands, especially Palestine, for years, the religious institutions of the Islamic world are expected to support countries that stand against these aggressions, rather than condemn their defense.

Citing Verse 39 of Surah Al-Hajj, the religious authority emphasized that the Holy Quran allows those who have been oppressed to defend themselves and promises them divine help.

Ayatollah Fazeli Behsudi added that in such circumstances, supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a country that stands against aggression, is not limited to the fatwa or personal opinion of scholars, but is rooted in the explicit text of the Quran, and every Muslim is responsible according to his ability.

He also considered the assassination of Iranian commanders and scientific and military elites as a sign of the open aggression of the enemies of Islam, and said that defense and resistance against such actions is a natural and legitimate matter.

Ayatollah Fazeli Behsudi criticized the silence of some Sunni religious institutions against the actions of Israel and America, and stated that the failure to condemn these actions and instead criticize the defense of an Islamic country has caused concern and regret among Muslims.

The military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which began on February 28, has resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Iranians, including women and children.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders were among those martyred on the first day of the aggression.

In response to the aggression, Iran has launched intensive attacks against Israeli regime targets and US bases in the region within the framework of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and with the aim of deterrence, and has warned that continued aggression will be met with a more severe response.
